How To Learn To Succeed Part 2 - The Value of Knowledge
Knowledge Is Power?
I'm sure you've heard the saying that knowledge is power. The reality is that knowledge acted upon and used is power.
When you have too much knowledge it can render you powerless through analysis. That is, you have too many bits of information to process and act on that you end up doing nothing. More often than not we take knowledge for granted because we've either heard it before or don't believe in the value of the information. The latter is a result if not clearly knowing what knowledge is truly valuable to us personally.
If you want to learn to succeed you have to learn what knowledge is most valuable to you. When it comes to self-development and daily success motivation this is extremely important. It is too easy to consume a lot of feel good material that seems to give you a bit of rest from the weariness and struggle of trying to find personal success.
I believe this is one contributing reason for why some people tend to take positive thinking as cliche' and a metaphor for success. The term has been used so often without a real application of the power of positive thinking that most people do not experience its powerful results.
For example, no one will disagree that positive thinking is a good thing. I think most people will agree that positive thinking isn't the only thing. But what you have to know is the value of positive thinking to you> for getting you the results you want.
Thinking positive and all other knowledge for success is most effective when it is used with a clear idea of what type of life you want to design for yourself. You have to have a clear idea of what you want and then target the specific knowledge that will allow you to achieve it.
Clarity Is Critical
Clarity is critical in this regard. There is A LOT of information out there for every conceivable topic known to man. You have to filter the relevant information necessary for your personal success.
So how do you do that? It starts with understanding the value of knowledge. You want high value, specific knowledge that support your goals for positive life change.
The process for identifying high value knowledge is so simple you could kick yourself for not realizing it sooner. It is like overlooking the obvious. But then the journey to living better lives includes awakening your consciousness and self-awareness to the obvious.
You identify valuable knowledge by it's ability to increase your ability to get results for yourself.
Simple right?
The Power of Focus
How do you know what results you want and how do you find the right knowledge? Have you heard of the reticular cortex? The reticular cortex is that part of the brain that when given and specific goal or objective allows you to target that goal or objective with great vividness, alertness and sensitivity.
As another example, suppose you desire a new model Toyota. You never would have even noticed that Toyota when you had no desire for it or focus on it. Now that you have a desire for it and you've filled your mind with thoughts and feelings for it you can be driving down the road minding your own business and you brain will point it out to you. You'll see it from the corner of you eye, driving on the other side of the road, parked at the store...everywhere! That's the power of the reticular cortex.
Once you know your desired outcomes and you fill your mind and heart with it, your mind will go to work in helping you identify the information you need make those changes happen for your life. As you seek out information, you will be able to quickly identify titles, topics, comments, people, and everything else that are the target for the changes you seek.
When you know what changes you want you can evaluate knowledge much quicker based on it's ability to potentially increase your ability to produce positive results in your life.
Your reticular cortext is powerfully fantastic natural filtering mechanism. You just have to take the time to establish clarity of mind and target want you want.
You cannot identify valuable knowledge if you have not established what is most valuable and meaningful for you. Pursuing valuable knowledge is an investment in yourself. It is an investment in the changed life you so much desire.
Get Changed!
What changes are awaiting you? The knowledge is out there. Learning how to succeed includes learning how to identify the high value knowledge that is going to make a difference in your life. Be picky and even be a little skeptical. Only settle for the best information that applies to your life and help you increase your ability to live your best life now.
