Yahoo Takes RSS Mainstream

Yahoo Takes RSS Mainstream

In a move that is seen as very positive by many, Yahoo has now moved closer to bringing RSS to masses. They are now beta testing the new My Yahoo! with makes heavy use of RSS feed in their search results.

Jeremy Zawodny, a developer in in the Yahoo's infrastructure platform engineering and RSS enthusiast had this to say:

"Well, we just launched a beta of the next generation of My Yahoo that fits into that reality. Instead of "you can add anything you want, as long as it's on the list of My Yahoo content" you can now add pretty much any public RSS or Atom feed. In other words, the content model is open.

Let me say that again, just for dramatic effect: the content model is open now.

This not only makes My Yahoo relevant in the modern wave of syndication, it does something else--something that Yahoo is in a unique position to do: bring RSS to the masses."

You can read more of his article here.

This is surely a move that will spur many online marketers to take notice of RSS and research how RSS can and will benefit their online businesses. RSS is mainstreaming folks, right before your very eyes. This technology can get very geeky but when you consider what Yahoo is doing for the mom and pop users you should get motivated to learn about RSS and to start syndicating your content...NOW.

This new version of My Yahoo focuses strictly on personalized content. With heavy use of feeds in search results to provide dynamic personalized and customized information for My Yahoo! users, Yahoo is making RSS feed subscription an "easy as pie" one-click process. This will accelerate adoption of RSS as a content subscription tool when everyday people can simply click to subscribe and access your RSS feed content and information.

The RSS search engine wars are surely beginning. If you have any content being published on the internet for business and marketing then you absolutely need to provide an RSS feed for that content. If you have as RSS feed aleady, then you need to get a My Yahoo account (it's free) and add your feed to your My Yahoo account. This is still a powerful way to get your feed into Yahoo! for free. Do it while supplies last!

Here is an excellent free report on getting your free Yahoo! lising through My Yahoo! by Dr. Mani. Click here to download the PDF report.

This is a huge leap forward for RSS in general and for information marketers specifically who are early adopters of RSS as a content syndication and subscription mechanism for promoting their message through their content.

You should also put the add-to-My Yahoo! button on your website or blog right away. My Yahoo is an now becoming a more full featured, web-based RSS aggregator or RSS feed reader that allows anytime, anywhere internet access to RSS content. Users simply search and click to add content to their My Yahoo! account and they can access it from anywhere they have interent access.

While there are a growing number of RSS feed readers being released for desktop use on Windows, Mac, and Linux many people make good use of web-based RSS feed readers like Bloglines.

If you are not RSS-Powering your web content and communications you should seriously consider doing so right now.

My report "Instant Yahoo Listing" was a fundraiser for my Congenital Heart Defects Awareness blog marathon event in July.

It details the exact process I used to get 120+ pages of my long standing Ezine Marketing Center into Yahoo! - in under 48 hours, using MyYahoo.

It's the proof of the pudding you've detailed in your wonderful article. If anyone has NOT yet been taking advantage of MyYahoo's backdoor yet, please do it NOW. It could end any time - and you'll lose out.

BTW, another excellent resource is my friend, Tinu Abayomi-Paul's ebook on RSS Marketing - for the under-$20 investment, it's several times value for money. Anyone interested, email me and I'll give you more details.

Best wishes
